Peeling Veneer and a Cottage Dresser

Another flea market find. Loved it and the price but one drawer had serious bubbling and peeling veneer issues. Since I intend to sell it, I knew I couldn't just paint it and hope they don't notice. Oh, they will notice. So, I bought some fabric and mod podged it onto the drawer and cabinet fronts. I did it in the same way I did this French Provincial side table.

Painted with an oops shade of yellow and distressed.

Not sure I like the every other drawer painted thing. Maybe all the drawers should be fabric covered. Thoughts????

Fast forward...2 days later. I am not happy w/ this so I decide to remove the little shell applique so I can put fabric underneath it. Then I'll happily place the shell thingie back. Not quite, this is where I run into problems. The shell thingie is now a million little wood pieces so I decide wine is probably a good idea :) I did however place a strip of fabric on the bottom recessed area which I was pretty happy with. I ordered an applique off of Ebay on the cheap and will finish this at a later date. Note to self...stay away from major veneer issues!

Tiffany Blue

Found this set at the flea market. I grew up with this style furniture...yup I was a 70's child where Friday nights meant the Brady Bunch and Partridge Family. I'll bet most of you who were born in the mid 60's probably had something similar growing up.

I mixed a bunch of oops paints together and came up with the prettiest shade of blue....Tiffany Box Blue. That's what it reminds me of, as if I ever got anything from Tiffany's, ha!

After all I'm a Marshall's girl :)

Bye Bye Cows

Do your well meaning friends give you furniture castoffs?? Do you graciously accept anything?  How nice it was that they thought of you in the first place regardless of the undesirable they are about to hand you. You smile, thank them and think silently...are you kidding me? Which brings me to this. Free for me, friends!
Touch jealous, are ya???
Close up of the happy cows who are about to meet their demise w/ a can of primer.
My friend Dave who owns a box company gave this to me. I met him while looking for boxes to ship the things I sell on Etsy. He's great....I call him, give him the size of furniture and he finds the perfect box. If there isn't one he cuts it for a perfect fit. Saving my buyer $ on shipping and potentially not squashing a sale for me. So I happily accepted the cow thing and was super happy when he also gave me this table. Loved that table.

I spray primed them because I was going to use burlap and didn't want their smiling faces peeking through.
Painted the cabinet black, added some new pulls and covered the cabinet fronts in burlap and added my favorite French stencil.

So much better if I do say so myself :) Not like I have anything against cows, ya know.

Here We Go Again~ Blue Gray

Flea Market find and it had a matching desk and I didn't have room for it. Went back the next morning and sure enough, there it was, being loaded into someone's truck....NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Someone took great care of this. It was in fantastic shape w/ just some scratches to the top. Nothing the sander couldn't handle :) 'cause ya know I love a stained top!

Look at those drawers...pristine! In a perfect world, all drawers would have compartments like these.

So Cassie, did ya know it was me? Bet you did :)

Rosemary's Gesso

If you haven't hopped over here, you must! This girl can make anything look fantastic. I love her use of gesso to create an old world finish. Found a mirror and followed Rosemary's instructions....easy and amazing results. My pics kinda stink but you'll get the idea. No before pic though :(

Here it is primed in gray and then I dry brushed a light blue/gray onto the raised areas.

Before the gesso

And after....love it, what a difference!

Thanks Rosemary for sharing your secrets :)

Side note***this sold within an hour of listing in my Etsy shop so thanks again Rosemary!

French Gray 1930's Dresser

I bought this CL find when I found this and somehow squeezed them both in the back of my Honda Pilot. Love both these pieces!

It was in great shape. Felt a touch guilty painting it but obviously not guilty enough. Sanded it, gave it a wipe down with TSP, primed and painted it w/ the softest shade of gray oops paint and glazed it in black. The top I sanded back and stained in dark walnut.

I sprayed the amazing pulls gloss black and then dry brushed them w/ the gray paint.

The really nice thing about this piece is it's on casters. So much easier to pull outside for pics. I just bought those sliding disc thingies from HD. I was skeptical but they really do work.

Have a great week!
